Gwyn-McClure Gymnasium carries forward one of Smyrna's richest basketball traditions. Campbell won the 1982 Class AAAA boys basketball state championship under legendary coach David Boyd after finishing as state runner-up the previous season. Campbell and Wills High School later merged in 1989, combining two proud Smyrna athletic traditions. Wills brought its own championship pedigree, highlighted by the 1986 state championship team led by McDonald's All-American Brian Oliver, who averaged 29 points per game as a senior before starring at Georgia Tech and helping the Yellow Jackets reach the 1990 Final Four. The modern competition gym, built with seating for more than 3,000 spectators, continues that basketball legacy as the home of today's Campbell Spartans.
