Lady Aggies sweep Shelby County on Senior Night

SYLACAUGA, Ala. — Sylacauga’s seniors got to celebrate twice Tuesday night.

The Lady Aggies honored six seniors before taking the floor against Shelby County, then made quick work of the Wildcats with a straight-set victory in an important area match.

Sylacauga won 25-11, 25-12 and 25-16 to complete the sweep and move to 1-0 in area play.

The Lady Aggies recognized Avery Roberts, Kennedy Hollinquest, Mackenzie Pruett, Mackinlee Motes, Neely Medine and Tarea Carter as part of Senior Night festivities.

Once the match started, Sylacauga took control early and never gave Shelby County much of an opportunity to settle in.

The Lady Aggies opened the night with a 25-11 win in the first set and followed it with an equally convincing 25-12 victory in the second. Shelby County put together its best push of the night in the third, but Sylacauga closed out the match 25-16 to finish the sweep.

It was a fitting home performance for a senior group that has been a big part of the Lady Aggies’ program.

Roberts, Motes and Medine have contributed defensively for Sylacauga, while Hollinquest, Pruett and Carter have given the Lady Aggies experience across the front row.

Tuesday night gave all six a chance to be recognized in front of the home crowd, but it also carried importance beyond the Senior Night celebration.

With Shelby County joining Sylacauga in area competition, the victory gives the Lady Aggies a 1-0 start in area play and an early step in the right direction as postseason positioning begins to take shape.

For one night, though, Sylacauga was able to handle its business on the court and send its six seniors home with a sweep.
