Basketball's CJ Franklin named First-Team All-State

SYLACAUGA, Ala. - CJ Franklin closed his high school career the way few ever do, earning First Team All-State honors in Class 5A as a senior guard for Sylacauga.

He was the steady presence every night, the one the Aggies relied on when possessions mattered most. Franklin led Sylacauga in scoring, but his impact went far beyond putting the ball in the basket. He also led the team in assists, showing his ability to create for others and control the flow of the game. On the defensive end, he set the tone as well, finishing the season as the team leader in steals. His all-around production made him one of the most complete players in the state. Night after night, he found ways to influence the game in multiple areas without forcing anything. His consistency is what separated him, and it is a big reason he now finds himself recognized among the best in Class 5A.

Franklin's leadership helped guide Sylacauga through one of the most successful stretches in program history. The Aggies reached back-to-back Final Fours, proving they could compete with anyone in the state year after year. Even more impressive, Sylacauga advanced to consecutive state championship games, something that takes both talent and toughness over the course of a full season. Franklin was at the center of that run, handling pressure, making plays, and keeping his team composed in big moments. He was the player opponents had to account for every time they stepped on the floor. Whether it was late in a close game or early in setting the tone, Franklin delivered. His ability to impact winning showed up in every postseason run. Those deep playoff appearances were not by accident, and his presence was a major reason why.

As a senior, Franklin leaves behind more than just numbers and awards. He leaves a standard for what a Sylacauga guard is supposed to be. His work on both ends of the floor, along with his leadership, helped elevate the entire program. Younger players watched how he prepared and how he handled the moment. Coaches trusted him to make the right decision with the game on the line. His First Team All-State selection is a reflection of everything he brought to the court over his career. It recognizes production, but also consistency and impact on winning. Franklin's career will be remembered for the way he led Sylacauga during one of its strongest eras. And for a program that expects to compete at a high level, his example will stick around long after his final game.
